A sporting achievement to be proud of...

It certainly has been a busy few days for sport: the culmination of The Open Championship at St Andrews on Monday, the Davis Cup success at Queen’s Club over the weekend, the cricket at Lords, and the Tour de France, all featured over the last few days. However, we’re celebrating a success closer to home: the success of Richard Wadsworth, Raymond Fernie and the Prostate Scotland Cycle Team in their London to Brussels cycle challenge.

The team left London’s Olympic Park on Wednesday to cycle almost 300 miles to Brussels via Amsterdam. Their route took them first to Harwich, where they boarded an overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland. From the Hook of Holland they cycled on to Amsterdam, then to Breda, before the final 80-mile leg that saw them successfully complete the challenge when they arrived in Brussels. What an achievement! We are pleased to announce the four-day challenge raised in excess of £33,000 for Prostate Scotland’s Blue Horizon appeal.

The Blue Horizon appeal was specially set up to raise funds to buy equipment that will enable robotic surgery for the treatment of prostate cancer in Scotland. Robotic surgery is widely used in other countries and enables a level of surgical precision that is not available in standard keyhole surgery, making complex manoeuvres easier to perform. Currently, there are no facilities in Scotland for this type of treatment.

Richard, Raymond and the rest of the Prostate Scotland Cycle team would like to thank everyone for the generosity that has enabled them to make such a fantastic contribution to the appeal. They would also like to thank everyone for the support and encouragement that helped them to complete the four-day challenge.

It’s not too late to make a donation; you can do so at either Richard’s or Raymond’s JustGiving pages. Any additional support will be much appreciated.
