BLAIRGOWRIE Golf Club hosted a new, high profile junior golf tournament on the Scottish calendar.
The team at Carbon Financial Partners were delighted to play our part in the success of the inaugural event.
The three-day “Barrie Douglas Scottish Junior Masters” was held in memory of a long-time club member who served for many years as a respected R&A selector, a member of the Perth and Kinross County executive and as captain of the Scottish national boys’ team.
Sadly, Barrie took ill and died during the European Team Championships in Spain last year. He was 69.
The respect he was held in throughout junior golf in Scotland and beyond was reflected in tributes paid by professionals including Richie Ramsay, Stephen Gallacher, Bradley Neil and Connor Syme.
More than 80 youngsters competed in the three day event supported by legal firm Blackadders and held over the Lansdowne course, with Airdrie’s Greg Dalziel defeating Jack Broun (Ayr Belleisle) after a play-off to claim the U18 trophy, while home player Gregor Graham captured the U16 title with an extra hole win over Nairn’s Calum Scott.
Carbon recently became a “Premier Partner” with Blairgowrie Golf Club, which hosted the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup and this year welcomes the Scottish Amateur Championship to Perthshire from July 31 to August 5.
We were delighted to sponsor a successful family golf and hot dog night in advance of the closing round.
Spencer Henderson, Scotland’s national boys coach and a close friend of Barrie’s, said: “The tournament was very successful and sponsors like Carbon Financial played an important part in creating a fitting tribute to a man who was passionate about youth development in sport and golf, in particular.
“The Carbon Financial Fun Golf and Hot Dog Evening was warmly welcomed by players and their parents. We are already working on tournament dates for next year.
“Carbon are great supporters of Scottish golf, from the grassroots to their backing for experienced European Tour player Richie. Hopefully we will see some of our youngsters going on to enjoy successful careers at the top level.”
Carbon managing director Gordon Wilson said: “We were delighted the tournament was so warmly embraced by youngsters from across Scotland.
“Congratulations to the winners and to all the youngsters who took part.
“Blairgowrie Golf Club is one of the best Scotland has to offer and it’s no surprise that competitors and their families enjoyed a warm welcome and that the feedback has been so positive.”
