Carbon ambassador and European Tour golfer Richie Ramsay enjoyed a top 10 finish at the Volvo China Masters at the weekend.

Here, in his latest blog, the Scot reflects on an impressive performance which hoisted him up the rankings – and the challenge any new dad faces in balancing work and family commitments.

“I’m having a couple of weeks on the home front now before gearing-up for the Irish Open later this month and then the BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth.

I have to say I was pleased with various aspects of my game in finishing in a tie for sixth at the Volvo China Masters in Beijing. Everything is going in the right direction.

A top 10 finish has certainly helped with the Race to Dubai standings, lifting me into the top 60 again despite time off to be with Angela before and after the arrival of our first baby, Olivia.

I decided not to defend my title in Morocco this week because of my schedule and to spend time with Olivia and her mum.

Because it’s not just about me now, most of my tournaments are scheduled from the middle to the end of the season. But I have had three solid weeks golf under my belt since the arrival of Olivia and signing off with a 66 in Beijing was very encouraging.

I always keep notes and will analyse aspects of the last few weeks before going to the Irish Open hosted by Rory McIlroy later this month.

I treat my golf as a business. The way I see it, you have to evolve. Stay the same and you will go backwards, in sport as in business.

Look at innovative companies, such as Apple. They constantly move the product on and invest heavily in research and development. That’s why they have done so well over the years.

My product is my golf game and I have to constantly look to advance, always fine-tuning things and looking to improve, especially when I have had time away from the golf course.

It’s not just the back pages I keep tabs on. I follow the business pages at home and when I am travelling, always looking to pick up something that might help in my game – maybe how a CEO comes in and changes a company?
