Carbon Financial Partners undertake charity cycle to raise £50,000 for Winning Scotland Foundation, with support from charity’s world famous Scottish athletes

A 10-strong team from independent financial advice firm, Carbon Financial Partners will cycle 500 gruelling miles in five days to raise funds for Winning Scotland Foundation. The team will be receiving support and advice from five of Scotland’s most famous athletes who work with the charity as role models in schools.

Guinness world record holder Mark Beaumont, world champion triathlete Catriona Morrison MBE, mountain biker Ruaridh Cunningham and cyclists Charline Joiner and Fiona Duncan are supporting the £50,000 fundraising effort for the charity that inspires young people achieve their personal best. The charity’s role models will provide advice, support and encouragement to the team from Carbon Financial Partners who are cycling the Highland 500 – a mountainous circular route around the North of Scotland.

The campaign has been titled ‘Carbon Fivers’ and marks the company’s fifth anniversary along with highlighting the milestones of the campaign, 500 miles, over five days to raise £50,000. Carbon Financial Partners has offices in Edinburgh, Perth, Glasgow and Aberdeen and in 2015 was named Chartered Financial Planners of the Year.

Catriona Morrison and Charline Joiner, represented the charity by joining the official launch of the fundraising campaign today (Tuesday 14^th June) at Gracemount Primary School. The team from Carbon Financial Partners will start the Highland 500 Fundraising Challenge from Inverness on 29^th of August and will climb a total of 33,500 feet, aiming to finish back at Inverness on 2^nd of September.

Winning Scotland Foundation works to create a culture where all young people in Scotland have the opportunity to develop themselves and learn important life skills.

Carbon Financial Partners managing director, Gordon Wilson said: “Winning Scotland Foundation sets out to help young people in Scotland to ‘achieve their personal best’ in whatever they set their mind to. Positively reinforcing what young people do well, helping them to learn from mistakes and to develop a growth mindset will help to build confidence and to develop essential life skills such as resilience, self-belief and determination which they can use in their everyday lives.

Carbon’s Richard Wadsworth who will be leading the riders said; “The route is very demanding physically, however with the support from the charity’s champions, we will be prepared to the best level we can be. We will also be cycling through some of the most beautiful areas of the country, which will keep us going.”

Catriona Morrison added: “I am delighted to be supporting the fundraising challenge. I will be on hand to provide advice and motivation to the team ahead of their ride. It will be a gruelling cycle but ultimately the end goal will be finishing and handing the money to a fantastic charity.

“It is important that we support Scotland’s children; we can create a culture today that will benefit them for their future. Winning Scotland Foundation has already established
projects which are benefiting children around the country, the funds raised will allow these to be extended to reach more young people.”
