Carbon was recently recognised as a finalist in the ‘Accredited Financial Planning Firm of the Year’ award at the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) Conference at Celtic Manor. Only Accredited Financial Planning Firms are eligible to apply and the award is designed to recognise the leading financial planning firms in the UK. Carbon made the final three but the top spot was claimed on the night by Nottingham-based Fiscal Engineers, an excellent firm and very worthy winner.
There are only 70 Accredited Financial Planning Firms in the UK which have successfully met the highest standards of excellence in Financial Planning as assessed by IFP.
Sam Rees Adams, IFP Professional Standards Director, commented: “Accredited Firms represent the leaders in the Financial Planning profession. This is not just by demonstrating excellence in process and service to clients but, most importantly, in setting the standard to which other firms aspire. The winning firm will clearly show itself to be the “best of the best” and will be a shining example of how firms can thrive despite the challenges that many advisory businesses now face.”
Speaking from the awards ceremony at Celtic Manor, Gordon Wilson said, “Whilst I feel disappointment that we did not win the top award, I feel extremely proud that Carbon is now being associated with some of the firms I have admired and respected for many years. We have an exceptional team at Carbon, whose focus is on delivering the very best advice and service to our clients. The quality of our people, their professionalism and our team-based approach results in great outcomes for our clients. One of our aims for the last three years has been to build a business which could compete with the very best in the UK, and our recent success shows just how much progress we have made.”

Carbon has also been shortlisted in the Chartered Financial Planning Firm of the Year. The winner will be announced at the Personal Finance Society conference dinner in Birmingham on the 6th of November. The competition is again extremely tough and to be in the final three is a tremendous achievement – to win would be a great compliment to all of our staff who have worked so hard to get us this far.
Chartered Financial Planning Firm of the Year would be a tremendous UK accolade to add to our Adviser Firm of the Year (Scotland) Award and would make 2014 a truly great year.
Win or lose, Carbon won’t be resting on its laurels. There are plans in place to invest more in staff and technology in 2015, which should further improve the advice and service provided to clients.
