Thirteen of us, including Winning Scotland ambassador and former professional triathlete Cat Morrison, took to the hills of Deeside on Saturday for a loop of a little under 60 miles.
We set off along the South Deeside Road towards Braemar and, having dealt with a puncture, and negotiated the armed police at the gates of Balmoral, the climbing began. We were soon over the first hill, across the iconic Gairnshiel Bridge, and tackling the toughest climb of the day. Eventually we peaked and flew down to Cargarff for coffee and cake. Refuelled, we cruised along quiet Donside roads before climbing out of the valley, dropping down the other side, and finishing via the grounds of Aboyne Castle.
Thanks very much to Mick for guiding us round and for everyone who came along for what was a great day on a superb route.
A number of the riders, Richard, Mark, Iain, Ian and Max are taking part in the Carbon Fivers 500 mile ride next week and this was great training. For more information about the Carbon Fivers challenge, and to donate, please see:
