Carbon takes part in November Business Fives

On Friday 25th November, we entered a team into the Business Fives football tournament. Business Fives run sports tournaments throughout the UK with the teams that enter raising money for a variety of charities.

Carbon’s team, made up of Liam Kerr, Ryan Doran, Finlay Wilson, Darren McMillan, Dean McFarlane and Matt Duncan, were playing for their chosen charity, Tiny Changes.

Tiny Changes are a charity who work to improve the wellbeing of young people in our communities. They were founded in 2020 by the family of Scott Hutchison, lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, who sadly died by suicide in 2018. The charity, “focus on children and young people, in the firm belief that it’s the right of every child to have good mental health and the opportunity to lead happy and fulfilled lives as adults.”

On the day, our team struggled in the cold, blustery conditions in the group stages, losing each of their group matches to Dickson Minto, Scottish Widows and Chiene + Tait, respectively. However, the Carbon team then won their Europa Conference League round of 16 match comfortably before narrowly coming through the quarter final courtesy of a sudden-death penalty shoot out. Unfortunately, progress was halted at the semi final stage as Carbon were again defeated by Chiene + Tait.

It was great to be part of such a successful event, which raised over £7,000. The Carbon team are hopeful of improving upon their performance in the 2023 edition and would be grateful for any support you can provide, in the form of a donation to Tiny Changes:
