Championing Diversity | International Women's Day at Carbon - Aimee McBeth

International Women’s Day is one of the largest employee engagement events in the world today. Many leaders, employees, customers, students, and community stakeholders worldwide seek to live in a world where women, are treated equally, enjoy opportunities of leadership, and can receive equal rights, opportunities, and access.

As a people focused organisation and an employer of several women in key roles, Carbon is using the opportunity of International Women’s Day 2022 to celebrate the achievements of our team, showcase their talents and help #breakthebias in the finance industry.

In this edition of our International Women’s Day series, we speak to Operations Assistant, Aimee McBeth, about her role, her achievements and inspiration.

What does your role involve?

I’m an Operations Assistant which means I am involved with diary management, HR administration, compliance support and associated admin. I’m also part of the benefit strategy team and the social team who organise and facilitate social initiatives for the team such as employee wellbeing events.

What do you enjoy about your job?

I’m quite new to the team! I’ve now worked here for a month but I’m really enjoying being a part of the Carbon team and I can see that there is lots of room for progression in this role which is a fantastic opportunity.

Can you tell us about something you are particularly proud of?

I graduated in 2020 which was right in the middle of the pandemic, therefore I had a final year that no one was expecting and was a bit more challenging that the usual university conditions, however, I successfully graduated with a degree in Business Management from Edinburgh Napier University.

Tell us about a woman you know who inspires you

My mum in inspiring to me. She raised me and my 2 younger siblings single handed whilst completing a degree in nursing. She showed me that it is possible to achieve anything if you work hard and stay motivated.

How did you get into the financial planning industry?

I had previously worked for another financial planner in an administration role, so when I came across the opportunity with Carbon, I applied as I thought it looked like a great opportunity to progress in the industry and learn from great people.

Why would you encourage other women to join the industry?

When I was younger, I had a perception that roles in finance were masculine roles, and it was usually men who would be successful. I’ve since found that this is not the case. There are so many different opportunities for women available and I love it because it fits in well with my degree and personal interests.
