The first of Carbon’s ‘easy riders’ routes heads to Perthshire on 18th August.
The ‘easy riders’ description refers to the pace of the ride, which will be gentle and with plenty of time for everyone to regroup.
The route, however, is no walk in the park, at 40 miles, and with two climbs (up via Auchterarder to Gleneagles, and then over the Comrie Moor from Braco). The route will suit those who have cycled a bit, who enjoy a challenge, but don’t want to race around the countryside!
It is a lovely route and well worth taking our time to enjoy.
The ride starts in the village of Madderty, which is about half way between Perth and Crieff. We are meeting at Madderty Hall (http://www.madderty.org.uk) for coffee from 8, with the ride getting underway at 8.45.There is some parking at Madderty Hall and, to ensure we don’t disrupt the village too much by spilling out of the car park, please share cars wherever possible, or jump on the train to Perth and cycle out the 10 miles or so to Madderty to get the legs warmed up! While we won’t be going back into the hall after the cycle, we have permission to leave cars in the car park for the morning.
The route heads south to Aucherarder, then west via Gleneagles to Braco, before heading north over the Comrie Moor, and sweeping down into Comrie itself for coffee. For coffee we’ll head to the spacious (and large-caked – remember your pocket money!) Tullybannocher Café, which is through Comrie and slightly out to the north west of the village.
After coffee it is east to Crieff and then on back to Madderty.

Will you join us?
Please let me know, as soon as you can, if you intend to come along.
We are looking forward to a gentle-paced ride in beautiful countryside!
