This year, Team Carbon traded suits for sportswear and spreadsheets for sidesteps as we took to the pitch for the Business Sevens Edinburgh Touch Rugby Tournament — and after an action-packed afternoon of teamwork, quick passes, and sunshine, we proudly walked away with second place overall.
The event raised over £700 for charity, with 1st place winners securing an extra £200 for Grace's Future and shield league winners securing £100 for Alzheimer Scotland.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome and a quick tournament briefing from the organisers, setting the tone for a competitive afternoon ahead. Our first game began at 14:30, and with the sun shining down and the energy high, we put in a solid team performance to open the tournament with a hard-fought draw.
With little time to rest, we jumped straight into game two — and this time, with a bit more rhythm and confidence, we found our flow. A strong team performance and sharp coordination saw us secure our first win of the day with a commanding 4–1 scoreline.
Momentum firmly on our side, we headed into game three eager to keep the winning streak alive. Despite the sun really making its presence known and energy levels starting to dip, the team dug deep and pulled off another win, this time edging it 3–2 in a tight contest.
After a short but much-needed break, we laced up again for game four — a tough match against one of the tournament's top teams. It was a fiercely competitive and entertaining game, played in great spirits, but we narrowly missed out on the win, finishing 5–4 down. Still, with two wins, one draw and one narrow loss under our belt, we finished the group stage in second place overall — and earned ourselves a spot in the Elite Semi-Final.
The semi-final saw Team Carbon back at our best, showing great coordination, sharp movement, and a lot of heart. We stormed to a confident 5–1 victory and secured a place in the final — and, fittingly, it was a rematch against the only team that had beaten us earlier in the day.
The final was everything a rugby sevens game should be: fast-paced, hard-fought, and full of memorable plays from both sides. With the sun still blazing and the game hanging in the balance, both teams pushed to the limit. In the final minute, our opponents managed to squeeze in a winning try — a tough finish to an otherwise brilliant run.
We might not have come home with the trophy, but we came away with something just as valuable — an afternoon of great team spirit, lots of laughs, and a strong reminder of what can be achieved when we work (and run) together. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to the organisers for hosting such a fantastic event.
Until next year — we’ll be back, and we’ll be ready.
