The Carbon Social Cycle Club

Sunday 26 January

Sunday 26 January saw the first Carbon Social Cycle Club (CSCC) outing of 2014. Despite rain and wind, seven of us turned up on a mixture of road bikes and mountain bikes, and in lycra as well as more flattering clothing. The route was out to and across the Forth Road Bridge, but due to a split in the peloton somewhere north of Cramond, and Richard’s awful sense of direction, two of us found ourselves heading directly to the café at South Queensferry, and were tucked up with a hot coffees by the fireplace quarter of an hour before the rest of the group ambled in. Having stocked up on huge cakes, we dragged ourselves back outside and meandered back to Edinburgh. A modest 20 mile run, but a good effort for a cold, damp January Sunday morning. Thanks to everyone who came along.

Carbon Cycle Club

Sunday 23 February

Last Sunday the CSCC were out again, this time battling high winds!

The select group cruised south from Edinburgh along the coast to Port Seton before facing into the teeth of the wind and heading back north. After a stop for coffee and cake in Musselburgh (the photo below is of a few of us as we emerged re-caffeinated), we found our way onto the Innocent Railway and meandered back to Edinburgh. The total ride distance was 30 or so miles, but it felt a lot more in the wind!

The next few CSCC dates will be:

  • 23 March.
  • 20 April.
  • 25 May (this is likely to form part of a bigger event – see below).

We’ll remind you nearer the time, but if you, or anyone you know, want to come along for modest miles at a relaxed pace (there is always the option for more miles at a steady pace afterwards), please pop the dates in your diary. Let us know if you want us to add any names to the circulation list, or if you have any suggestions for the club, including good routes from the centre of Edinburgh covering no more than 30 miles.

The Carbon Four Offices Challenge

On the weekend of 23 to 25 May 2014, Carbon Financial Planners Stephen and Richard will embark on the challenge of cycling between all four of Carbon’s offices, beginning in Aberdeen, cycling to Perth, then Glasgow, and finishing in Edinburgh. It’s a journey of well over 200 miles in three days and the aim is to raise money for The Aberlour Child Care Trust. We are beginning to plan the event in more detail and are looking for other cyclists to join us, either for the whole route or part of it. The third day, from Glasgow to Edinburgh on Sunday 25 May, will be a route of about 50 miles, with a couple of stops on the way, and we hope we’ll be joined by a reasonable number of the Sunday crew to cheer us home. We are suggesting that this form the Sunday club run, with those who want to limit the miles perhaps jumping on the train and joining us for the run in from Linlithgow.

More details to follow in due course, but if you are interested please email stephen.rowntree@carbonfinancial.co.uk or richard.wadsworth@carbonfinancial.co.uk
