It is International Men’s Day on 19th November and the theme for 2023 is Zero Male Suicide.
Men’s health and wellbeing is often not spoken about enough, so as part of Carbon’s efforts to raise awareness we will be using the day to show appreciation towards the male role models in our lives.
Practicing gratitude has been shown to improve mental health and reduce the risks of suicide. It leaves both the source and recipient feeling more positive and has the benefit of being free, fast, and highly effective.
So, if there is someone out there who has had a positive impact on your life, or means a lot to you, be sure to make them aware of it. It’s good for your health and I suspect it will make their day!
As part of Carbon’s ongoing support for both male and female colleagues, our in-house wellbeing team regularly share helpful content and remind staff of the external resources that are available if ever needed. This helps ensure the whole company continues to be the best they can be.
On a personal note, I have found that the experience gained from heading up our wellbeing team and undertaking mental health first aider training has made me feel better prepared for supporting colleagues. These soft skills are also invaluable when helping clients in vulnerable circumstances – an area of service that I champion at Carbon.
